  1. RT-680
Hello All,

I purchased a RT-680 but upgraded almost everything to RT-700. Part I replaced = Auger, Fan, WiFi Controller, Ceramic Fire Pot , Internal Probe, Shelf, Stainless Steel covers and Black door and a fresh paint job. Only reason I am putting all this in here is because maybe I need to replace something else that i missed..

My issue is when i crank it to max on the controller I could only get it as high as 380 degrees. Anyone else have this issue? whats the max temp that people are getting with there RT-700 or RT-680? I thought its suppose to go to 600 degrees.

thanks

Have never seen 600 but do hit 500+ with no issue. Though when you open the lid at that temp it drops fast and takes a bit to recover.

Don't think I've ever let mine try to get to 600... But here's what my readout said . Think this was a sear plate temp test, can't remember

While it's likely accurate that fruitwood isn't going to generate heat like a hardwood such as oak or hickory I doubt you'll gain more than somewhere between 20 and 50 degrees depending on the variables. You've got something else going on. Given that it's somewhat of a "Frankenstein" modification you're probably going to have to work through the variables one at a time to figure it out.

Do you mind sharing your settings? auger speed etc.. is there a way to control the fan speed as well?
I synced my probes (several times) but my auger speed is factory. I use lumberjack 100% wood pellets and they seem to burn hotter also.I think this was a sear plate test and they say it increases the surface temp.(not sure if true). I'm kinda lucky as in, my garage doors face East and South .we have prevailing winds from the SW... So I can always set my RT 700 at the edge of the big overhead door (east) and then open my man door for venting. Usually don't get any smoke inside the garage.
Little things like that (blocking wind/sun) can affect temps also. There are YouTube videos and instructions on going through the settings mode in your owners manual.
I'm not sure about the fan speed, but I want to say it isn't adjustable. I've noticed others comment that it may take longer than expected to get up to high temps in certain places too. Goodluck lets us know if you get'r up to temp.

Thanks for the great information! I actually installed my old controller yesterday to see if the WiFi was the cause. I did get it to increase 20-30 degree to 420.
RECTEC support is going to work with me on fixing this. I’ll share what issue was once I get it resolved.

Check your smoke stack to make sure that it hasn't built up layers of soot from years of use. It'll cause less airflow which in turn causes an excess of exhaust gases to stay in the main chamber.
Along with the airflow being inadequate, you have a pressure increase which makes for incomplete burning and thus, lower temperatures.

By chance, did you seal the lid of your 680 with Nomex gasket material? It'll make the effects that much more prevalent.

Ill double check the smoke stack, but i am pretty sure its clean. Do you think raising or lowering the chimney will help?

Also i don't have Nomex gasket installed do you recommend it?

thanks for the help!

Don't forget you can raise the feed rate to get a higher max temp
