Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

I figured I'd update this thread since it's been a while, and it's been kicked back to the top of the forum. While the grill has some temperature variation on the grilling surface, I totally expect that to be normal and I just account for the hot and cold areas when cooking. The temperature...

    Trailblazer temperature issues

Try running the feed rate at 3.0 and put the smoker in the shade if possible. High ambient temp can really create issues as well, and you gotta run the feed rate low to account for it.

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

Just a quick update to this thread. I thought I'd give it one more shot before I called RecTec support again, so I tried to smoke a small pork loin at 180 over the weekend. The smoker couldn't really hold 180 for any measurable amount of time, with lots of spikes of 30+ degrees with one almost...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

I hear ya Uncle Bob, and you're right on the money. Cooking surface is what it is and variations should be expected. The only issue I really ever had with this whole pellet smoker endeavor was chamber temp consistency. RecTec claimed that: Smart Grill Technology™ Controller • Proprietary PID...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

Nothing like the smell of burnt toast to start the day off haha. The middle row of bread all the way across in the first pic looks pretty even considering the heat source is in the center of the smoker. Yeah, I agree that it's probably the angle of the drip pan that is creating the higher...

The offset for the Actual is a percentage, yes. This video from RecTec gives a little more info on it.

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

For the "Actual" offset, the number is a percentage reduction of the overall number. So, -10 is a 10 percent reduction of 250 or 25 degrees. As for the numbers being different when turning it on and off, the sensor for the "Actual" temp is not like the meat probes. What I mean by that is that...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

This was the problem I ran into. The "Actual" temp wasn't anywhere close to what the other sensors were reading. I don't know about the other models, but my "Actual" temp sensor is mounted on the inside of the grill close to the hopper, and I only have the one internal sensor. If there are...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

The 6 channels was a nice plus, and the app for the fireboard seemed to have more detail than the thermoworks. The fan control option in the fireboard was also nice to have if I ever wanted to add it to one of my grills in the future. The other thing I like about it is that you don't have to...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

I've always tried to measure temps at "meat level" whenever possible on almost all of my grills. Before I started thoroughly testing at grate level, I did have an ambient sensor right next to the RecTec sensor and the results were similar to what I'm getting now. The RecTec sensor must have a...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

:D The two ambient probes are in the same locations as the first test. One on the left side of the grill, and the other on the right side of the grill, almost grate level with clips holding them in place. The two other meat probes are on top of a brick in the middle of the grill.

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

I just finished another grilling session yesterday and while I did gain some insight as to how this grill performs at given ambient temperatures, I never really could get the grill to stay at a set temp when measured with my fireboard compared to the RecTec "Actual Temp". The full chart from...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

Yeah, I just don’t get the temp swings either. But, this is my first pellet smoker so it may be normal. If you just looked the RecTec “actual temp” you’d never see these spikes and fluctuations.

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

I just spoke to RecTec about the app not recording and crashing after long cook sessions. They said it was a known issue and to set the recording interval to a longer duration (15 minutes). Even with the longer duration you could still run into issues with the app crashing due to the amount of...

Chamber temp vs set / measured temp.

I finally had a chance to do some testing today, but I ran into issues with the RecTec app displaying all of the temps on the temperature chart. About 4 hours in, it stopped letting me access the data, so a lot of the RecTec "actual temp" data is not available. I have all of the data on my...

I'd like to know this as well. I'm going to calibrate for 250 and see how far off it is at higher temps.

New Trailblazer RT-340 owner here. I've had this smoker for about 2 months and cooked a few meals at hotter temperatures with great results. Some of the cook times were a little long but I chalked it up to just learning the quirks of this pellet grill. Over the holiday, I tried to cook my...
