Bull Probe Problem

My probes, after many cooks, were registering 95/99 degrees when attached to the unit but NOT in the smoker Outside temp was 71. I called rec tec, and was told to reinstall the hardware. Seemed like a big solution for what may have been a small problem. I told him thats not happening. Unplugged and replugged, turned unit on and off. Plan B, calibrate problem in ice water. One read 32, other 34. Did the recalibrate and seemed to put them back in order. Anyone have anything similar. Solutions? ??

I only have a problem with one of my probes where the cable goes into the probe. There's a small short in it and if it gets bumped slightly, it reads all over the place. It would have been nice for RT to source out probes with some strain relief at that junction.
