If you have dogs that chew everything in sight this mod is for you. It only took a couple weeks before my dog chewed through all my control wires. I knew I needed something tough to protect them. I used 3/4" metallic weather tight conduit. It only takes about a foot and two compression connectors. It takes a little rewiring and some shrink tube crimp connectors for 16 gauge wire. The pictures speak for themselves.

Nice job!
Have you considered puting some black split wire loom around it? Give it kind of a "factory" appearance.

Nicely done buddy. Looks pretty solid to me. :D

cool mod, but if I had dogs that did that, the dogs would be gone... We are not much for animals unless they are the kind that we put inside the grill LOL!

We rescued a Bernese Mountain Dog about 18 months ago. She doesn't like tech gear. She's gone through 3 Comcast remotes and a 4 year old iPad. Comcast gives out remotes like candy on Halloween so that didn't really bother me but the iPad kind of pissed me off. Wife wanted a new one so the cynical side of me wonders if the iPad was left on the floor by "accident."

Dogs seem to be attracted to the sweet smell of plastic and the soft texture. I think I would have used the bare metal conduit if my old lab had chewed the wires. Plastic coated conduit would be like rubbing peanut butter on it for her. She was a prolific chewer.

You should see the destruction we find in the wiring harness on cars that the mice and other rodents do. One of the main reasons I put this grill on my Bull to keep the little devils out after my cart mod would have given them a nice cozy home.

The insulation used on wiring, to be green these days is now soy based and the animals love it.

Rescues can be tough, we tried several times to get one and inquired on many but when you check the box is your yard fenced in NO they did not get back to us.
My son has a couple of rescues and they will chew a hole in what ever to get out and chew another one to get back in they have literally destroyed thousands of $$$ in property and items.
The Lab Honey, we have now came from a breeder was sold to another person and was returned due to the woman finding out she had breast cancer 4 weeks after she got her the pup. We found out about it and kinda rescued her and she has her issues, a little skittish but we are working them and she is coming around nicely. All said and done she is a great loving dog and will be one years old on the 10th of June.

You have to have a lot of patience with dogs. Not everyone is suited to own pets. Our sweet loving Basset Hound just had the puppy chew desire much longer than some dogs. My lab doesn't chew but he likes to dig.

Bare metal flex is not rated for outside. Its also not as tough as the metal on weather tight conduit. The dog could chew through the outer plastic but never through the steel. Also bare steel flex will rust. So far no chewing on my conduit.

Im not concerned about the appearance however i kind of like how it looks. Also 3/4" flex is over 1" in outer diameter. I don't know where you'd find split wire loom that large. Also my dog would chew it right off.

I've had several dogs but never had this issue.?
Once i was using an electric pruner in the back yard. It got dark and I put away the pruner but forgot and left the extension cord out and plugged in. Next day I found it chewed through. Amazing it didn't burn my dogs mouth. I can't leave my rectec plugged in either or he'd probably chew through the cord also.

One of my pointers chewed thru an extension cord in the house and shorted it. She never bothered them again.
