RecTeq turning off app remote start up feature?

The ‘powers that be’ may be as simple as lawyers and insurance companies, after someone burned down their house. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions about if this is political, regardless of which side of the aisle you sit on, without further explanation from recteq.

I am a bit surprised of how may are angry or disappointed about this function being turned off. First, I am not sure how many, but expect a VERY low percentage of folks, even bought their smoker because this was a feature or even use it. When I bought mine, I had no idea it was one of the apps features nor one I would ever use in the first place. I have a 1250 and it takes no more than 10-15 minutes to get up to 225-250 when I turn it on. During that time, I am getting the food out that I will be cooking, and the grill is up to temp long before I am ready to put the food on. Also, I rarely clean the grill when I am done cooking, so I vacuum out the fire pot and any other necessary cleaning before even I turn on the grill. I also am a believer in having the lid open when starting the grill. I know not everyone does that, but a number of folks had expressed their concerns/complaints about having experienced a smoke explosion when starting up the grill, which I can completely understand. Having any grill starting up and running with no one around to watch it is a safety risk in my option.

I am not at all sure any government regulation has mandated this. I see it in Recteq's and their investors best interest to turn the ability off to limit any legal liability from lawsuits that lawyers would love to file and make money on, and more importantly to keep families safe.

Ok so here's the latest info I found... The Recteq group is going ro censor those concerned about it...this was more than a topic about a wireless start up button, but people dont seem to get it.

Ray himself said it was mandated regulation...and here is what I think started it.

Everything I have seen here is about gas appliances (LP), nothing about pellet grills. The latest meeting post shown here is January 2023. Has there been any movement since then? So I am still not sold this is a regulation on pellet grills even if Ray says so. I would think Ray would show his customers the “Regulation” that Recteq is having to follow or why Recteq made the decision if there is no regulation, then maybe everyone would move on and understand the safety reasoning.

PRC so it was explained to me that these people have sub committees on all outdoor smart appliances etc etc .. if you read the bullet points closer it makes more sense.
Its a blanket clause so to speak.
"Smart outdoor specialty cooking appliances".

The third bullet can be read into that we will no longer be able to do overnight or all day cooks unless we are attending the smoker. Guess pellet smokers will be a thing of the past and barrel smokers will make a comeback.o_O

You cut out one important part of the memo:

“In June 2022, the Outdoor cooking CSA technical subcommittee (TSC) that maintains ANSI 221.89 / CSA 1.18 Outdoor Specialty Gas Appliances standard formed a task force to discuss adding requirements for smart enabled features in ANSI Z21.89.”

Even the 2023 memo starts with:

Subject: CSA Decorative Gas Appliance Smart Enabled Task Force meeting
Product: LP Gas Appliances
Date: January 23, 2023

Not one mention or hint about pellet grills. It would sure be great to see some follow on meeting notes from late 2023 or 2024 clarifying what they discussed and what recommendations were made and more importantly be able to read the actual written regulations that will be or were put in place and by who.

Yes you didnt understand what I said so Im done trying to explain it. The sub committee is about all ourdoor smart appliances. Thats the part I cut for you...there are more logs coming..youll have to get the exact wording youre looking for on your own..have a good night

There will be a spike in sales at places like Auber Instruments for PIDs and Raspberry PIs. Homebrew pellet controllers for all the serious geeks. It will all look like a Mad Max cookset. I love it!
