RecTeq turning off app remote start up feature?

This bs doesn't pass the stink test. It would have been prudent to inform all the customers of the change via email blast or letter mail. I just found out about this bs while I was away from home and wanted to preheat my grill. This development is a deal breaker for me. I already have to use a fireboard temp monitor/reporter because the app is worthless. We are now down to adjusting temps and turning it off which defeats the purpose the wifi was installed. RT has gone completely to hell since I bought my first unit. They charged for and received monetary compensation for this sought after option. I suspect a fire resulted from some mindless twit setting his house on fire because said twit forgot to move the grill away from the dwelling. Or as previously mentioned, Rectec or the "victim" got hacked and some nefarious individual turned it on because said twit leaves the grill connected to wifi 24/7. Consequently, said twit hired an attorney and the rest his history. Yet, you can still text and talk on your cell phone while driving any automobile. Any electronic wizards out there come up with a work around? If not, anybody want to buy a slightly used RT700 with a worthless wifi feature located in middle Tennessee?

If I have to go outside to plug it in (so it's not connected to wifi all the time), why not just hit the power button while I'm out there? Now that the cool features are gone what's a used recteq worth? It's kind of like a prettier pit boss from a decade ago in capabilities.
If the app was bluetooth wireless only and they forget the data collection on their one server, you'd still be able to start the grill from inside the house. Much less likely to be triggered from North Korean hackers. (but still not impossible)

But that yard keeper is still lurking in the yard, or so they say. I am over it because I don’t see remote start an other units I am interested in. For that matter I am not positive some turn off remotely. So far I think that feature still works. Like @SmokeOCD noted, I have to go plug my unit in, after I uncover it, check my hopper, and open the lid. Now I have to reach down and push the control panel button rather than turning it on with the app. Which, I did use if I walked away for a moment and did not feel like walking over to it.
So, for me, my laziness along with back issues which, have no bounds, I am past it. I don’t like the “why” it happened excuses, none of which I believe or cater too. The “twit’s” and the like, of the world have taken over working with the fine upstanding pursuit of “Justice ” practitioners. Again, it is done and done. Maybe a fantastic Recteq Facebook/Instagram/ whatever social media Slam might make them understand but not reverse.

Yes I posted a work around... Just search for it.

Twice now I was able to walk out to my backyard and plug in my RT700 grill. On the way back inside I push the little power button. I’m still feeling great, woke up both mornings after and I smoked some great food. O yeah I’m 68. 🥴
What is the "power button" that you speak of? Pics or it didn't happen!

Yes unfortunately, (and I have talked to him) Ray has gone from "its US Gov regulation everyone has to do it, we don't want to do it ... To... Im not saying the agency name and I agree that the possibility to start a fire is bad". I do believe him that, they were going to do a press release and it got away from them when it was leaked out, but still...
Which makes me really aggravated. People think this is about the actual button or the remote feature but actually, its about something deeper that most are not understanding here.(overreach) Its their company, there choice, but choices have consequences. Did the price go down for less features? Did they make it up some how to recent purchases? Are they going to keep folding to lets say "woke BBQ" ? Soon your car radio or accelerator pedal will be controlled also.
Damn right!

The aliens from a far-away galaxy are testing their remote mind-control software and made Ray do it. Congress needs to get right on this and hold some hearings. 🤣
