Hi Fellow RT'ers….
If anyone has wondered how to get a decent sized drip pan under a large bird, or other goodness that you cook on an RT-590, take a look at a simple mod that I did to make room under the grate to allow a 2" high drip pan to easily fit under the grates.
All you need is (2) pieces cut to length of 1 5/8" deep slotted Unistrut pieces, placed at the front and back of the grate edges. Cut them both at 29 3/4" long to fit perfectly. This raises the grates to allow the drip pans to fit nicely on the factory Rec Tec drip plate and works perfectly to catch all those great juices, while still allowing to cook without the bird sitting IN a drip pan. You can see them in the attached picture at the front and back of the grates.
The attached pic is of a 28 lb Turkey that was spatchcocked and fit perfectly in the RT-590. Easy fix for what I would figure is a common problem for some cooks.
