I purchased the RT 700 in August 2000 and during initial assembly was concerned with the small wheels. The casters began to show weakness immediately and my unit is on a smooth pool patio. I reviewed the RT 700 (straight leg version) wheel upgrade and ordered the 5” casters suggested and they were a direct replacement. The new RT 700 has wide stand legs and the Fixed Wheels required a bit more modification. We removed the legs with the fixed wheels and removed the wheels. The axles are welded into the legs and took considerable effort to remove. I initially attempted to use a Dremel tool with a 1 1/2” cutting wheel which unfortunately wouldn’t cut deep enough. I settled on using a jig saw with a “hard metal cutting blade”. Once the axles were removed a reamer tool was used to enlarge the original axle holes to 5/8” to accept the new axles (stainless 5/8” bolts). Due to the angle of the wide stance legs, the new axles required beveled spacers with 5/8” holes. (See the pictures) The new 10” fixed wheels are non flat type with 5/8” axle bearings (Amazon purchase) and a stainless acorn nut finished the wheel attachment. The new wheels are a great addition and the RT 700 roles very easily.
