The are the same ecept the RecTec ones measure out 1/4 inch longer. I'm pretty sure that's where RecTec sources the Sear Plates from.

Do rec Tec sear kit grates fit in place of normal stainless grates or do you put them on top of existing stainless grate?

You can use them both ways

They can be used ridges up to get the grill mark's or down for a flat full sear cooking surface too.
